About Us

  • Welby Elementary serves close to 800 students from kindergarten to sixth grade in the suburban community of South Jordan. Built-in 1979, the school has traditionally enjoyed strong support from both its parents and surrounding neighbors.
  • The curriculum stresses skills in the academic areas with special emphasis given to higher-level thinking skills, problem-solving, technology, and the arts.
  • We are pleased to have a full-time music teacher sponsored by the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Foundation. The Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program (BTSALP) provides arts-integrated instruction to elementary students, effectively increasing student performance in music.
  • Welby is a team teaching school. The teachers assigned to each grade work together as a team to implement the curriculum. The students are released early on Friday to facilitate this teaming. Students typically have opportunities to study with more than one teacher during a week.
  • Through our website, all members of our staff can be contacted, and information accessed, such as the monthly lunch menu, PTA newsletter, and monthly calendar.
  • Welby offers a beginning and advanced band, beginning and advanced orchestra, and beginning and advanced choir program before school. Approximately 100 students participate in these programs.
  • Welby is proud of its character education programs. We use the InFocus curriculum combined with the Jordan School District Portrait of a Graduate characteristics to help students learn social and behavioral skills that support academic learning.
  • The sixth-grade students serve on our Safety Patrol to help provide safe passage each day for all students. In addition, we have many leadership teams designed to foster a learning atmosphere in which leadership skills are developed.
  • Our elected School Community Council meets at least four times a year to discuss issues of concern, and provide input regarding use of state Trust Lands funding.
  • Our PTA provides great support for teachers and students. The PTA sponsors a yearly Reflections contest, holiday treats, Red Ribbon Week activities, Fun Run, and Culture Night, book fairs, parenting classes, field trips, and many other student services. PTA volunteers donate many hundreds of hours of service in classrooms at Welby throughout the year.
  • School breakfast and lunch is available each day. Our food services personnel go beyond the mark to provide appetizing and nutritious choices on each menu.
  • School visitors are always welcome at Welby. Please check in at the office for directions and information. To visit our school it is required that the Code of Conduct requirements have been reviewed and a signed form is on-file with the office.  The Administration is available to meet with patrons at almost anytime. Identification is always required to check a student out of school and students will only be able to go with family members listed in Skyward unless other, prior arrangements have been made with their families.
  • Our students are given special opportunities to excel and receive recognition through our Wildcat of the Month Award, WIDA Awards, Visits with the Administration, and classroom based rewards.  We also offer many opportunities for after-school programs as well as gifted and talented programs.
